The author treated control-flow and dataflow separately to demonstrate the state-of-the-art microprocessor's design. The main drawback is there exist too many typos in this book. Many important microarchitecture/implementation issues not mentioned in the P&H book are described.

The Microarchitecture of Pipelined and SuperscalarComputers provides an authoritative treatment of the implementation(i.e. microarchitecture) of computer architectures. The subject mattercovered is the collection of techniques that are used to achieve thehighest performance in single-processor machines; these techniquescenter the exploitation of low-level parallelism (temporal andspatial) in the processing of machine instructions. The book gives acoherent picture of caches, pipelines and their control, and branchprediction. It is the first such publication to treat these topicstogether. The Microarchitecture of Pipelined and Superscalar Computerscovers the fundamentals of the subject by outlining the generalprinciples and ideas. These are then demonstrated by selected casestudies taken from practical machines. The Microarchitecture of Pipelined and Superscalar Computers hasbeen specifically developed as a textbook for advanced undergraduateor graduate level instruction. It also makes an invaluable referencefor microprocessor design engineers and those seeking to pursueresearch in the area.
