Now, I wouldn't give this product such a negative review just for that reason, (I may have ovulated too early or too late for the 7 sticks provided). My problem is we can not buy refill test sticks for the digital unit. Rather we have to buy the entire unit all over again. This seems very wasteful (not to mention expensive). Either include 20 or 30 sticks, or provide refills! It was disappointing not to get the smiley face :(

The good:
*Helpful for women with irregular cycles who can't just guess which 7-day period they should be testing for LH surge.
*Inexpensive.
*Reasonably sensitive at picking up LH surge.
The bad:
*Once you open the canister, the strips can only be used for 30 days, so you can't use them across multiple cycles.
*You have to rinse and reuse the pee cup, although this didn't really bother me.
*It can be difficult to read. An LH surge is indicated when AT LEAST HALF THE WIDTH OF THE TEST LINE is as dark as or darker than the control line. It's not like other OPKs that indicate an LH surge when ANY part of the test line is as dark as the control line. Unfortunately, it doesn't say this anywhere in the instructions, so I thought my LH surge was lasting for 7 days (which is physically impossible!).
Despite its problems, I plan to buy this again next month because of my cycle irregularity and will make sure to interpret the results correctly this time.

1) These tests "expire" 30 days after you open the bag. So don't think you can stock up for multiple months. Of course they won't mention this until you've already opened the box.
2) This isn't as black-and-white as they'd have you believe, at least in my case. Unlike pregnancy tests, where you're looking for the presence or absence of a line, reading these tests depends on determining whether the test line is lighter than the control line (a negative test) or the same as or darker than the control line (a positive test). Maybe this is fine for most people, but every day since I've started, the two lines have been similar in color and tricky to decide which is "lighter" or "darker". Since you are only supposed to have a positive test for a few days of the month, I couldn't really say whether I've ovulated or not. So I spent my money . . . why?
3) the instructions included are pretty vague . . . you will probably want to read up on ovulation testing online (but don't count on first response's website to be very helpful) before you start. Additionally, things like Clomid can mess with your results.
All that said, this pack cost something like $48 at CVS. So if you're going to buy it, buy it here.

The HPTs are another story!! They are supposed to detect anything above 20 mIU/ml. I've only used first morning urine, or urine held in for at least 5 hours. But repeatedly, my lines were so faint that I had to convince myself it was wishful thinking. I showed them to my partner: "Sorry honey, I know how much you want this, but there is really no test line here; it's negative!!!"
So, I decided to try Answer, side by side with a strip, to see if I was crazy; I dipped one strip and one Answer in the same urine at the same time... Answer turned very + as soon as the urine reached the antibody line! The strip, as before, could not conclusively be read as a positive.
An hour after that, I went in for a quantitative blood test: my hCG level was already 67 mIU/ml! Over three times more than the minimum those strips are said to detect!!!
Bottom line: Avoid a false negative! Spend a couple more dollars for real HPTs!

According to a digital test that I took simultaneously, it does, yet the directions state the line must be the same color or darker. But now that I know this, I think the tests are very good for the $.

They do not work! as well to top it all off, I thought the hCG test would work better then the LH test and the hCG prego test said they are "ideal for early detection of pregnancy," I am now 4 1/2 months prego and they just now picked up the hCG hormone...

(More customer reviews)The digital aspect of the test is nice in theory, simple pregant and not pregnant results---they forgot to add "when you are able to get results!" The battery life is extremely short lived and once the batterys gone the test is useless. I went to use this test, inserted my test stick into the digital piece for the first time and there was this error that said "see leaflet" which tells you to wait half an hour than attempt again (trying to hold your pee in for half an hour longer isn't the easiest thing to do I might add). So I waited and got nothing, the screen was blank. I called the manufacturer, as also instructed in the leaflet, who said that the battery had died, rendering the pricey test useless, and it would take up to a week for a replacement (maybe its only me, but when it comes to something such as a potential pregnancy a week is unacceptable). As the errors right in the leaflet and the manufacturer knew exactly what was wrong very quickly i'm assuming its a common issue. Moral of the story: this technology needs major improvements. Until then, stick to the simple batteryless plus-minus tests, not only are they cheaper but they are more reliable.

(More customer reviews)This ovulation test is pretty simple to use, I have been ttc for 8 mths using the cheap dip test strip, and the results were always open to interpretation. On this test, the control line is nice and dark which makes comparison easier. I used these 5 tests this cycle - they include a "when to test" guide - and I was able to catch my surge. Usually it takes 14 or so strips (2x day for a week)!
My only complaint is the "splash guard".
Obviously if you are POAS, you're gonna splash. During the test, I just turned the stick over so I couldnt see the results window and held it almost vertical. That mostly fixed this problem.
But, the biggest reason I'm happy with this product is I finally got a positive OPK. Yay!! Fingers crossed.
